The inaugural August Equity Pool Competition took place at Bar 19:20 in London on November 20. Teams from advisory firms competed against each other and August Equity in an attempt to claim the tournament trophy. There were varying degrees of skill on show, but all the teams performed gallantly. Livingstone Partners’ Alex John (above left) and Nigel Morgan (right) eventually triumphed over the Ernst and Young pairing in the final.
August Equity hosted its clay pigeon shooting day on a crisp November 23 at the Royal Berkshire Shooting School. The day began with group tuition on shooting techniques, and then the afternoon shooting commenced from various stands over 150 traps located throughout the school, culminating in a team flush. Prizes went to group winners Sam Watkinson (August Equity), Simon Tilley (Close) and Ian Barton (Deloitte) for top shoot of the day.
Andrew Hartley hosted a table at the Will Greenwood Testimonial World Cup Review Dinner on October 23. The event allowed our guests to meet England rugby legends Martin Johnson, Jason Leonard, Josh Lewsey and Will Greenwood. The players reviewed England’s progress in the 2007 Rugby World Cup and discussed the performance of the team in this year’s final.
Richard Green hosted a table at the Square Mile Sports Awards evening on December 5. The event saluted sporting heroes of the year, as voted for by the City. The panel of judges included Will Greenwood, Tim Henman and Darren Gough. The black tie event was well attended by members of our various networks.
August Equity will be hosting its first Chairman’s Curry Club of 2008 in February. The event allows our network of chairmen to catch up on developments within August Equity’s portfolio of companies and debate hot topics facing the industry. August Equity was shortlisted for Best Corporate Website at the CorpComms Awards, which were held on November 28 at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel. This follows the re-launch of the August Equity website in March, which now features videos, podcasts, an event registration system and a superior overall navigation system.
Keith Davidson hosted August Equity’s Queen’s Club Tennis Day on a sunny September 21. The event, which was well attended by our adviser network, swung into action with a training session for teams. The competition got underway in the afternoon, with PricewaterhouseCooper’s Simon Eckett claiming top prize and Peter Barrand of PwC and BDO’s Andrew Ware coming joint second.
