A further development for 2008 is the Boat International silver jubilee which will be celebrated in style with a brand new four-day invitational regatta. The Rolex-sponsored event will take place from June 22-26 in the breathtaking waters off Costa Smeralda (in northern Sardinia) and is expected to become a firm fixture of the superyacht calendar.
Meanwhile, at this year's World Superyacht Awards, acclaimed yacht builder Camper & Nicholsons and the Royal Institution of Naval Architects have launched an award that will recognise the achievements of an outstanding young designer.
Entry is open to recent graduates or those studying for a degree or vocational qualification related to yacht design. The winner will receive ¬5,000 at the 2008 awards ceremony, due to be held in Venice on April 18. "We've had an amazing response," says Harris. "The standard is extremely high, so our judges will certainly have their work cut out."
